GWBS Study on Colossians Homework for November 7, 2018, Session 8
PUTTING ON GOD’S CHARACTER
Colossians 3:12-17

Please read these verses (SLOWLY) in at least two versions (try The Message by Eugene Peterson, too). Ask yourself as you read: what does this passage tell me about God’s heart (His character and personality), His love for me, personally, and how I can RE-present the spirit of Jesus to others if I choose to “go as” Him.

1. When you read in Colossians about the qualities we are to “put on”, did it remind you of the works of the flesh (old self) and the contrasting “fruit of the Holy Spirit” Paul wrote about in Galatians 5:19-23?  Make a list of the don’t wears and the do wears below. You might want to look these words up and ponder how they pertain to your own life.

Galatians 5:19-23

Colossians 3:5-17

2. What is the umpire who rules what is fair or foul in our behaviour?

3. How do we know if we are still on the right path?  What do we “feel”?

4. In Colossians 3:15-17 Paul mentions one thing 3 times. What is it and why do you think it’s so important to do it?

A WORD ABOUT HOMEWORK:  Those who have read the scripture and pondered the homework questions prior to Betsey’s message, get SO MUCH MORE from the message and our small group time than those who don’t.   PLEASE TAKE TIME TO DO THE HOMEWORK–for your benefit, for the group’s benefit, as a way to respect those who are serving and, most of all, FOR THE GLORY OF GOD!
